Tramontana Palace

Tramontana Palace is situated on Klapavica Square in the part of Vis known as Luka and was built by a merchant, Luka Tramontana in 1911 in the Neo-Renaissance style.

The whole façade of the palace is made of beautifully finished stone, divided into three parts; on the ground floor are the main and two side entrances with arches whilst on the first and second floor there are three renaissance mullion windows with a balcony in the middle. The balcony on the first floor is slightly deeper than that on the second floor and is supported by two stone profiled consoles.

On the second floor, above the central balcony that ends in a semicircular form, is the statue of a woman holding a raised torch in her hand. The façade is adorned with decorations created using the mosaic technique and then gilded. On the second floor balcony railing, within two shields the initials of the palace owner have been carved – L T together with the year of construction – 1911 and his motto, which is still current, WORK AND PERSISTENCE.

The other palace façades have not been built so luxuriously having flat stone slabs whilst the palace itself is covered with gable roof.
